American Eagles were initially introduced in 1986 by the U.S. mint and have been the official gold bullion coins of the U.S. since. The 1/2 oz eagle bears a face value of $25 US and purity of 91.67%. The 1/2 oz eagle is the largest of the three fractional eagle sizes available which many clients turn to with a lower initial price point than the 1 oz.
On its obverse, like its larger counterpart, the 1 oz, these coins also have the Lady Liberty depiction, created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
The reverse, from 1986 to mid-2021 features a family of bald eagles around a nest. In mid-2021 the gold eagle series got its first update with the reverse of the coin displaying the head of a bald eagle.
The 1/2 oz American Eagle coins can be found in brilliant uncirculated condition in full tubes of 40.
All sizes of the gold eagles are eligible for IRA purchases.
